This February, the College of Education’s Department of Human Performance and Sport Studies celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day by highlighting four women who have shaped girls’ and women’s sports in the Pocatello community. The celebration featured a new podcast, Hear Her Story, and recognition awards honoring their contributions.

Andy Whittier's Journey from ISU to Team USA

Thanks to Cool Runnings, ISU alumni Andy Whittier knew what bobsled was, but not skeleton. Taking a chance, he sent in numbers from his ISU football days and got invited to Park City, Utah, for a 2-week fast-track training and trial run. A month later, Whittier was on his way to a life-changing career as a world-class skeleton racer.
