Club Highlight: Student Association of Healthcare Administration

May 1, 2026

The Student Association of Healthcare Administration (SAHCA) is dedicated to preparing healthcare administration students with the skills, experiences, and connections that they need to succeed in their professional careers. The club is designed to provide students with a well rounded professional development experience that focuses heavily on networking and developing the future leaders of healthcare.

One of the cornerstones of SAHCA is its club travel to healthcare conferences like the Idaho Medical Group Management Association (IMGMA) and the Idaho Hospital Association (IHA) meetings each year. These conferences are structured to allow students to network with healthcare leaders across the state and learn more about the current issues in healthcare. These conferences also focus on leadership development and the skills necessary to succeed in the industry.

In addition to attending these large events, SAHCA also hosts a guest speaker each month. These guest speakers often include professionals from local, regional, and national firms who share insights about their career journeys, industry trends, and practical advice for internships and full-time roles. Some meetings include the chance to take a tour of their hospital or clinic to hear more about their roles in healthcare. Guest speakers love staying connected with ISU healthcare administration students to help them advance their careers.

Membership in SAHCA offers lasting benefits. Students gain access to networking opportunities, leadership roles, real-world experience, and a supportive peer community that encourages both academic and personal growth. Lydia Bishop, Secretary for SAHCA, states that “Joining SAHCA was truly one of the best decisions I made during my freshman year of college. The ability to network with professionals, engage in thoughtful peer conversation about healthcare, and represent the club has been rewarding not only professionally but also personally. Some of my favorite memories of college are getting to attend conferences with SAHCA, and attending these conferences helped me overcome my fear of networking.”

Ultimately, SAHCA strives not only to prepare students for successful careers but also to instill a leadership mindset that members will carry with them into the professional world. By combining career readiness, leadership development, and service, SAHCA helps shape well rounded professionals who are prepared to make a positive impact wherever their careers take them.
