Live, Laugh, Liz

Hi everybody! My name is Lizbeth and I am a double major in Health Science and Spanish for the Health Professions with hopes of attending medical school to become an anesthesiologist. I want to provide a familiar face to the large Hispanic population in clinical and emergency settings. I am a low-income, first-generation college student from the small rural town of Castleford, ID. If you don’t know where that is, don’t worry; no one does. It's a really small town about 35 minutes from Twin Falls with a population of around 220 people. As a person who had coyotes and cattle in their backyard, moving to Pocatello for college was definitely an adjustment, but I grew to love ISU! After a variety of experiences, both good and bad, I’ve learned to find my own path. Around campus, you can find me with headphones, usually blaring music or the occasional class lecture. I listen to a wide range of music ranging from classical cello solos and energetic K-pop melodies to rap beats and nostalgic Mexican songs. In my free time, I enjoy doing skincare, makeup, and gelx nails. I also love traveling to new cities and experiencing anything and everything they have to offer. Usually, as a memento, I always get a keychain to remind myself of the memories and places I’ve been to.

On campus, I am involved in a variety of things. I am part of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc., ISU TRIO Student Support Services, the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos & Native Americans in Science, in addition to being an ISU College Assistance Migrant Program alumni. I have been involved in a neurobiology research lab since my second year at ISU. In the summer of 2023, I was a Pre-Medical Summer Health Professions Fellow at Columbia University in New York City. This program is designed to help undergraduate students explore their interests in health professions, ranging from medicine and dental to public health and physical therapy!
