To Be Decided

Hey guys! Lindi here. I am a third year student here at ISU, and I hail from the oh-so rolling potato fields of the Owyhee Mountains near Melba, Idaho. This is my second year as a mentor for the University Honors Program, and I love the opportunity to connect with more people and build a community here at ISU. ISU has given me opportunities to pursue many things: improv, printmaking, creative writing, research, and even pottery. I came to Pocatello unexpectedly but have fallen in love with living life here, embracing all seasons (though winter somewhat forcibly) and enjoying the outdoors that surround us. Though I have a deep love for Idaho, I have a passion for international education and language advocacy. My future plans are up in the air, but I intend to pursue a graduate degree in linguistics and hopefully study in Eurasia, as I am currently learning Russian, to become either a sociolinguist or a linguist working in language documentation and revitalization in rural areas. Coming from a rural area myself, I have a heart for these kinds of communities and their diverse cultures.

At ISU, my pursuits have been all over the place. I hold a leadership role in Chi Alpha Christian Ministries and membership in the Language Learning and Botany clubs. In the spring of 2023, I also took an improv class and auditioned to join Pocatello's local improv comedy group, The Comedy Project. In working with Honors advisor Conner Suddick, I was able to be a co-author on my first research publication in the summer of 2023 and have now had two additional creative publications in two literary journals. My favorite opportunity, however, at ISU has been the chance to get to try out so many different interdisciplinary practices. From creating a print with other students on banned books to being an assistant editor for the Black Rock & Sage (ISU's literary journal) to working with Honors faculty in facilitation and teaching, ISU has provided so much growth and opportunity in my academic journey. In Pocatello, I have also been able to volunteer at the Pocatello Animal Shelter and with the Intensive English Institute here at ISU. I love having the option to pursue multiple opportunities, but most of all, I love helping people. That’s part of why I decided to be an Honors mentor. The other reasons vary, but getting to know and help incoming Honors students sounds like a joy to me. If you have any questions, thoughts, or even just random notes from a class you hold unmatched fervor for, I would love to talk to you and hear them!

On that note, skate fast, eat trash, and welcome to the University Honors Program.
