An Overthinker with a Green Thumb and a Pair of Pointe Shoes

Hey Everybody! My name is Lauren Owens, and I am beyond excited to be serving as a UHP mentor. I look forward to seeing many of you around campus! Currently, I am majoring in health science with quite a few add-ons. These range from completing the pre-pharmacy prerequisites to a minor in PA studies to a certificate in biomedical ethics. I have really enjoyed working my plan out and learning how fantastic ISU truly is. I also had the opportunity to complete the phlebotomy course offered through ISU’s continuing education workforce training program. I am now a nationally certified phlebotomist and had an amazing experience working through the program and look forward to using my license more. I have absolutely loved my time at ISU from dual enrollment courses, to workforce training, to my current program.

Beyond keeping track of and working through the academics of college, I really enjoy watching movies, playing tennis, going on walks, and playing Mario Kart. I also have quite the plant collection, including the more standard house plants as well as my thriving collection of carnivorous plants. I love to talk about them, so if you are ever interested, just let me know.

If there is one thing I would recommend considering and remembering when coming into this new adventure, it is that college can be rough sometimes but it is also a lot of fun. There is nothing more important than taking a step back and taking a breath when things seem overwhelming. It is so easy to get swallowed up in the course load, your own expectations, and the stress of adjusting to this new phase of life. However, it is beyond vital that you realize that any discomfort you might feel isn’t going to last forever, you will actually have a ton of fun and there are always people to help you out.
