Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

A Safety Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is a written set of procedures that explains how to use and manage hazardous chemicals, processes, and procedures to prevent or minimize health and safety concerns.

The OSHA Laboratory Standard requires that the Chemical Hygiene Plan  include: “Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) relevant to safety and health considerations to be followed when laboratory work involves the use of hazardous chemicals”.

SOPs must be included or linked in each lab's "Lab Specific Safety Plan".
