Extra Points

All absences are unexcused unless they are for an ISU sponsored. Students can complete the pre-approved extra point activities to earn a set maximum of points that can be used to offset the points they may potentially miss. These assignments need to be completed by the due date shown in Moodle.

A. Terms & Definitions

  • Handwrite the definitions of the terms found at the end of each unit.
  • Upload images (only .jpeg, .tiff, .gif, .doc, or .pdf files will be accepted) of the handwritten definitions to Moodle before the due date.
  • If the student accurately defines the terms in their handwriting for that unit, they will receive extra points per term list.
  • Must be completed by the final Moodle submission date and time using the assigned materials. They will not be reopened.

B. Name card folder

  • Students must affix a wallet-sized photo of their face to the name card during the first week of lab for five points.
  • They need to set out their name card for you and their classmates to view during each lab.
  • You will make notes if they used the card during lab and will give them points on five separate occasions, unadvertised.
  • They must turn in the name card along with their task sheet or post-quiz each week.

C. Instructor feedback (1101L/2227L only)

  • Students complete the instructor feedback form.
  • The instructor feedback form is anonymous and is intended to help the instructor tailor their approach and make appropriate changes in the lab during the semester that is in progress.
  • Remember the form is anonymous and the student responses will not be linked to the student name when viewed by the instructor.

D. IMNH  - Student goes to the IMNH and takes a picture of themselves next to their favorite display.

E.  iNaturalist (1101L/1102L only) - Students set up an account and submit an observation of a NATIVE plant, animal, or fungus that they observe during the semester.

F. Seminar Summary (1102L only) -  Students attend a College of Science & Engineering Seminar/Colloquium and fill in the Moodle assignment.
