Candidates will create a professional portfolio aligned to state and national standards using our current e-portfolio system. The ISU Educator Preparation Overview outlines the admission process, student teaching, and the e-portfolio requirements.


Undergraduate Degrees – Standard Teaching Certificates

Teacher Certification Only and Accelerated Certification

If you hold a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in a state-approved endorsement area, gain your teaching certificate by completing a COE teacher certification program.

An Accelerated Certification program leading to a Standard Secondary Certificate starts every May and takes about one year to complete. [Contact ATLAS for either path to teaching.]


Alternative Routes to Certification

The COE allows Alternative Routes to Certification through, approved application packets and individualized Alternative Route plans. [Contact the Idaho State Department of Education website at and the COE ATLAS for information.]


Additional Endorsements

Add subject area endorsements by completing additional coursework in a content area prior to graduation or you can add endorsements to your existing Standard Secondary Certificate after graduation and initial certification. (See the Idaho State Department of Education website at
