Transfer FAQ
How are my transcripts/credits evaluated?
Your official transcript(s) will be reviewed by a Transfer Specialist after your formal admission to ISU. All lower-division coursework will go through an initial course description review by the Office of the Registrar. All upper-division course equivalencies are done by departments teaching the course. Make an appointment with your assigned departmental advisor if you have upper-division courses you wished to have reviewed for direct credit. All coursework taken from Regionally Accredited institutions is transferable to ISU.
I transferred courses, but they are showing up with XXX, does that mean it didn’t transfer?
Courses that transfer with a course number of XXX are general electives. Make an appointment with your assigned departmental advisor to discuss how these credits applied to your degree program at ISU.
I have an Associate degree, is my general education met at ISU?
Students who have earned an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science automatically qualify for a general education waiver at ISU. All other associate degrees are reviewed to determine if they meet the Idaho State Board of Education general education matriculation policy.
I went to a quarter school, why am I only getting partial credit?
Credits transferred in from a quarter school have to be converted to the semester system. A quarter credit is equal to 2/3 (0.667) of a semester credit.
I attended an international university, will my credits transfer?
All students who attend an international institution must go through a credential service to have their coursework reviewed and converted to the USA system. All coursework taken outside of the USA must go through a formal department review to determine direct equivalent credits.
Make an appointment with your assigned departmental advisor to discuss how these credits apply to your degree program at ISU.
How does my transfer work affect my ISU GPA?
Transfer grades are converted to the ISU grade system with a proceeding T (TA, TC, etc.) and do not affect the ISU GPA.
Can I earn credits from my JST (Joint Service Transcript)?
Students who received military training, recorded on their Joint Service Transcript (JST), must provide ISU with an official JST during the application process. Students may ask to have these training modules evaluated for college-bearing credit using ISU's PLA policy.
I took a class at my previous school but it is not applying to my Degree Works as I expected?
Make an appointment with your assigned departmental advisor to discuss how these credits apply to your degree program at ISU, or email dgwaudit@isu.edu.
As a transfer student, what are my residency credit requirements?
Resident credits are credits earned at Idaho State University for ISU credit-bearing courses. All students pursuing a degree or certificate from ISU must complete a minimum number of credits taught by ISU faculty.
