APPLICATION OF PATIENT VALUES AND PREFERENCES IN EVIDENCE-BASED MEDICINE

This talk will provide an overview of patient reported outcome measures (values and preferences) used in
practice, and examples of their application in evidence-based medicine and clinical practice.

Learning objectives for the healthcare team

• Explain psychological heuristics and how individual patient values are used to improve patient care

• Demonstrate how consideration of values can enhance prioritization, treatment selection, selecting research, and supporting patient choice in evidence based medicine application.

• Compare and contrast how clinical interpretation and application of evidence based medicine many vary based on patient type and environmental circumstances.
