SAGE WISDOM WEST Film Screening

Sunset with mountains in background and sagebrush in foreground

April 15, 2026

6 to 8 pm

Frazier Hall

Join us for an evening with Emmy-winning journalist, Kris Millgate, for her newest film SAGE WISDOM WEST. Kris who has documented disappearing salmon across the Northwest and recovering grizzlies in Greater Yellowstone, brings us a high desert adventure with the largest grouse in North America. The film is produced by Tight Line Media with support from Toyota.

Greater sage grouse live in the West’s most dominate landscape, sagebrush steppe. Both the bird and the brush are shrinking because of us and in spite of us. SAGE WISDOM WEST celebrates the dynamic upland bird’s continued existence in modern-day America while also documenting humanity’s impact on native species.

Hop on the high desert adventure. This one is for the birds.

The evening program will include:

  • Film screening of SAGE WISDOM WEST
  • A presentation by Kris Millgate
  • question and answer session by Kris Millgate
  • Refreshments and book signing

Kris Millgate, Outdoor Journalist

Tight Line Media CEO Kris Millgate is a bold storyteller, but she wasn’t born brave. Millgate, an Emmy-winning outdoor journalist born the same year as the Endangered Species Act, grew up painfully shy and afraid of beards.

She spent a decade in TV news before starting Tight Line Media in 2006. With three decades of multimedia storytelling, Millgate traverses the country in search of dynamic topics. She researches issues thoroughly then translates core elements via video, photo and words with credibility that demands audience.

Tight Line Media productions tour with film festivals and win national honors. As producer, writer, videographer, photographer, certified drone pilot, editor and gear hauler, Millgate engages in every project with inspiring enthusiasm and unmatched intensity.
In the edit bay, she never tires. In the field, she never stops. She hikes, bikes, rows and flies her cameras into the wilderness to collar grizzlies, catch trout, and count birds.

Millgate is a leading member of Outdoor Writers Association of America, a life member of Trout Unlimited and an Idaho Master Naturalist. She’s also a trail runner, fly fisher, bird hunter and avid seeker of awkward moments. She’s outgrown her shy side too. She talks to strangers daily and she hangs out with beards often.

She’s currently reporting for PBS, USA Today, Outdoor Life and East Idaho Outdoors. Her first book, My Place Among Men, and its sequels, My Place Among Fish and My Place Among Beasts are available now. Her salmon film, Ocean to Idaho, toured with Wild & Scenic Film Festival while her multimedia production, On Grizzly Ground, won an Emmy and airs on PBS nationwide. Sage Wisdom West and it’s backstory, My Place Among Birds are her newest endeavors.
