Hospitalist Fellowship

The Hospitalist Medicine Fellowship at ISU is a one-year intensive learning experience designed for Family Medicine Physicians who wish to enhance their Hospital Medicine skills.
Fellows generally start in July each year.

Clinical Duties
The fellow should expect:
- Procedurally-rich training, including bedside ultrasound and ultrasound-guided procedures including central line placement, paracentesis, thoracentesis, etc.
- Obtain advanced training with an interdisciplinary team approach in adult inpatient medicine, including critical care within a longitudinal curriculum that will include subspecialty experience in infectious disease, pulmonology, cardiology, nephrology, and gastroenterology
- Other optional electives, including anesthesia / airway management and emergency medicine
- Obtain teaching experience in supervising residents on the Family Medicine Inpatient Service
- Some flexibility in curriculum to meet the desired training of each individual fellow
Research Training
Duties are primarily clinical, but research opportunities may be available through the ISU Clinical Research Center. Fellows are encouraged to be involved in a Quality Improvement Project within the ISU Family Medicine Residency Quality Improvement Curriculum.
Salary & Benefits

Salary: $90,000 annually

Hospital Medicine Fellowship Application
Application Timeline: We begin accepting applications May 1st of each year
Application Deadline: September 1st of each year
Interview Schedule: August and / or September each year
Fellows typically start in late July.
Applicants must be:
- A third-year resident in an accredited Family Medicine residency, or
- Board-certified or board-eligible in Family Medicine
- Mid-career physicians looking for additional skills or a career change are welcome to apply
- Licensed or eligible for licensure in Idaho State
- Current ACLS certificate
- We cannot support J-1 visas

- Three letters of recommendation, including one from your program director
- If you are more than two years out of residency, a letter from a senior colleague or supervising physician / medical director may be substituted for the program director letter
- Personal Statement outlining your inpatient experience to date, and why you want to pursue this training
