Dr. John Dickey Retires
After 18+ years with Idaho State University Family Medicine Residency Program, Dr. John Dickey has retired as Humanities Director and is looking forward to a host of new adventures. We send heartfelt warm wishes as he moves on. We also thank him and will miss him!
“I have been privileged to share much of the history of our program, from its earliest days in the tiny basement of the Student Health Center as a 4-4-4 program to its current 7-7-7 configuration in what once seemed like an enormous newly remodeled clinic. I’ve also been privileged to work alongside so many skilled professionals who have served as our core faculty, administrative and support staff. What touches me most deeply, though, is when I walk through the faculty office hallway and see the faces of each member of our graduating classes. I am so pleased to have participated in both the joy and the pain of residency with so many of you and your family members.” John Dickey

Dr. Kelli Christensen has been at the forefront of ACGME’s new Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) program. Working with Portneuf Medical Center and Health West she has created and chaired a CLER Committee. This committee, along with champions in the WWAMI Network, has worked on a CLER “mock” site visit not only to prepare for ACGME’s visit but to engage the sponsoring institutions, residents, and faculty in quality and patient safety initiatives.
Dr. Christensen has presented this work to the other 22 programs in the WWAMI Network by way of a faculty development webinar. She and Dr. Judy Pauwels with the University of Washington were selected to present this work nationally at the annual ACGME conference in San Diego, California last month. Dr. Christensen and others in the WWAMI Network remain dedicated to promoting learning environments with a mission to promote patient safety and quality health care.
Dr. Josie Syverson returns from international rotation
November 2014 - Dr. Josie Syverson has just returned from an international rotation focused on improving her medical Spanish in addition to volunteer opportunities among a unique indigenous population. Welcome back Dr. Syverson!
"I was looking for an opportunity to improve my Spanish in order to better serve my patients in residency and in the future. I chose a program in central Ecuador that focuses on teaching the language in addition to volunteering time in local clinics or hospitals. Residency is a great opportunity to experience global medicine and I felt very well supported by the faculty and staff from ISU Family Medicine."
