Meridian Campus Operations Information

Daily Facilities operations at the Meridian campus are managed and delivered by staff based at the campus in Meridian.  The Meridian Facilities staff include dedicated craftspeople and managers. We have a licensed Electrician and licensed HVAC Journeyman on staff. Other licensed trades-work or specialty needs are generally contracted or supported by in-house staff traveling from Pocatello based on intermittent needs. One of our Project Managers based at Pocatello, travels to and from our Meridian facility for project support and utilizes the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor for assistance as needed.

General Repairs

A significant number of services requests are for general repairs and or routine in nature. Examples of routine maintenance are listed below:

  • Lights burnt out
  • Sticking doors/ lock repairs
  • Climate control changes
  • Odors (gas, fire, electrical, etc.)
  • Water leaks
  • Plumbing repairs
  • Spill response
  • Damaged flooring

Routine maintenance and repair of building and /or equipment are accomplished with a Work Request. This written format is used to provide for repair on a priority basis. Emergency or urgent repairs are handled verbally and as quickly as possible.

Maintenance Painting

Maintenance painting is completed on an as-needed basis to protect surfaces (e.g. wood, drywall, etc.) from deterioration. Routine building inspections are performed to assess painted surface condition. Maintenance painting is generally performed about once every 10 years for offices, labs, etc. where traffic is light and the potential for marking and painting damage is minimal. In high traffic areas painting may occur more frequently, depending on need. In the event of office vacancy, rooms will be assessed, cleaned, walls repaired, and repainted for the next occupant.

Lock Shop

For the Meridian campus, we rely on main Campus operations staff to cover keying and access control. Work is requested by submitting a work request for the lock shop to move, add, or change locks and keys as needed.

Meridian Custodial Management

Our Custodial staff is the front line connection to our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Every effort is made by our Custodial team to continually enhance the campus and our buildings, and to create a beautiful, clean, and safe environment for all to enjoy.

A custodian’s job is not merely to keep a building clean and orderly, but we also hope that he/she will take a personal interest and pride in the building in their custody is functioning efficiently at all times. Any damage to the building or its equipment should be reported. Light switches and doors should be checked to see that they are functioning properly, and do not stick or squeak. Noisy radiators, air conditioners, and other machinery should be reported to their supervisor. Cracked or broken windows should also be reported. In an effort to assure good building sanitation, the custodians use some of the latest professional cleaning equipment and follow the latest CDC guidelines for proper disinfecting strategies throughout the campus environment. The following are more specific procedures for classrooms, restrooms, offices, hallways, and other areas of cleaning assignment.

Meridian Grounds Management

We strive to provide a beautiful campus, with appealing trees, flowers, shrubs, and lawns for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors to enjoy. An appealing campus is the first thing prospective students experience when visiting the University. Studies show the positive impressions made in the first 15 minutes of a campus visit are critical to a student’s decision to attend classes at an institution of higher education. Students decide to remain with their selected University based on the quality of the education, and the quality of the buildings and grounds.

The Meridian grounds department is responsible for the following:

  • Litter & Waste Control
  • Turf Maintenance
  • Weed Trimming
  • Edging
  • Fertilization
  • Weed Control
  • Irrigation
  • Arboriculture
  • Shrubs
  • Snow Removal
  • Parking Maintenance
