Training Opportunities

Idaho State University Public Safety is a resource to the campus community. While we don't have set class times, you can fill out the request form below to let us know what training you would like to take. Trainings are open to all ISU staff, faculty, and students.

Examples of classes we are able to teach include:

Life Safety Leadership Training provides a background into how ISU handles emergency situations, including critical communication strategies. Participants get an opportunity to freshen up their skills by learning about what steps they can take to keep themselves and their teams safe during emergency situations where they may be asked to shelter-in-place, or evacuate. We will share specific actions to help individuals verbally de-escalate situations using proven strategies, critically think about how to respond during an active shooter situation, and increase their fire safety knowledge. Life Safety Leadership Training is a preparedness tool designed to help both the individual and teams navigate emergency situations.

Duration: 2.5 hours

Location: In-person or virtually, details dependent

Participants: 5 - 20

Idaho State University Department of Public Safety is often requested to present or provide direction when it comes to an Active Shooter Event or other Targeted Hostility. Through this training, you will learn what it means to "Run - Hide - Fight" (Avoid - Deny - Defend).  You will be provided with guidance and proven strategies for surviving and the tools to begin pre-planning for a worst-case scenario.

Duration: Approximately 45 minutes

Location: In-person or virtually, details dependent

Verbal De-escalation is a valuable skill to possess because it can help students, faculty, and staff identify, manage, and address conflict. Conflict can arise at any time and by anyone. This training is designed around real-world situations. We will help you learn how to manage a person in crisis, manage somebody causing a disturbance, and know how to act and react to a violent or potentially violent situation.

Duration: 20 minutes (introductory course), 60 - 90 minutes (full presentation)

Location: In person, details dependent

  • Residential security
  • Personal property inventory
