MAT Program Curriculum and Requirements

Coursework and other requirements will vary depending on choice of certification and endorsement. The certifications/endorsements below are available for either option (Alternative Certification or Traditional). The difference is the time it takes to complete the coursework and other requirements. Choose from the options below to find out more.

ISU offers CTE endorsements in Business Education (BED) and Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS)

(39-41 semester hours)

EDUC 5501 Secondary Content Area Literacy: 3 semester hours

EDUC 6622 Educational Assessment and Evaluation: 3 semester hours

SPED 5550 Creating Inclusive Classrooms: 3 semester hours 

CTE 5501 Foundations of CTE: 3 semester hours)

EDUC 6620 Motivation for Learning: 3 semester hours

EDUC 6602 Theories of Learning: 3 semester hours

CTE 5503 Methods of Teaching CTE: 3 semester hours

EDLA 6630 Education Equity and Ethics: 3 semester hours

EDUC 6651 Field Project or Case Study in Education: 3 semester hours for all 

EDUC 6652 Field Practicum in Education (Student Teaching): Option 1, 3 semester hours for Option 2, 6 semester hours 

CTE 5599 Adobe in Education: 3 semester hours

EDUC 6601 Research and Writing: 3 semester hours

CTE 3341,42,43  Leadership in CTSO’s: 3 semester hours

All candidates are required to pass the appropriate:

ISU offers several endorsements for Secondary educators.  In addition to Secondary Education certification, candidates must choose an endorsement area closely aligned to their bachelor’s degree.  For a list of endorsements available through Idaho State University, please see Idaho State Board of Education Approved Praxis II Qualifying Scores

EDUC 6602 Theories of Learning: 3 semester hours

EDUC 6631 Advanced Secondary Methods: 3 semester hours

EDUC 5501 Content Area Literacy: 3 semester hours 

EDLA 6630 Education Equity and Ethics: 3 semester hours  

EDLT 6616 Integration of Technology into School Curriculum: 3 semester hours  

SPED 5550 Creating Inclusive Classrooms: 3 semester hours

EDUC 6652 Field Practicum in Education: 3 semester hours for TraditionalOption/6 semester hours for Alternate Option. 

EDUC 6651 Field Project or Case Study in Education: 3 semester hours

All candidates are required to pass the appropriate: 

Secondary Mathematics endorsement requires a 3 credit professional development course: Mathematical Thinking for Instruction (MTI) or Teaching Mathematical Thinking (TMT)

ISU offers several endorsements for Elementary (K-8) educators.  In addition to Elementary Education certification, candidates must choose a Middle School endorsement area closely aligned to their bachelor’s degree.  For a list of endorsements available through Idaho State University, please see Idaho State Board of Education Approved Praxis II Qualifying Scores
