Peace Corps Prep at Idaho State

The Peace Corps logo: A dark blue circle with a white bird shaped like a dove. Underneath the bird are read and white wavy lines.

What is Peace Corps Prep?

A partnership between Idaho State University and the United States Peace Corps that allows you to integrate coursework with hands-on field experience and professional development to better equip you for international service. Upon completion of the program, you receive a certificate from the Peace Corps and a competitive edge when applying for Peace Corps positions overseas or for similar work in global societies and here in the U.S.  To learn more, explore the Peace Corps Prep Brochure.

The Peace Corps Prep program is free and open to all currently enrolled Idaho State University students.

Build 4 competency areas

The Peace Corps has identified four core competencies that are necessary for the intercultural work Peace Corps and similar agencies do:
  1. Sector-specific skills in Education, Environment, Health, Community Economic Development, and Youth in Development
  2. Foreign Language Proficiency
  3. Intercultural Competence
  4. Leadership and Professional Skills

Getting Started

  1. Review the website and read the 2020 PC Prep Student Guide.
  2. Fill out the Student Application to the best of your ability, be sure to include any relevant previous coursework, professional (paid, unpaid, internships, etc.) experience, and leadership experiences, and then set up a meeting with the Peace Corps Prep Coordinator. It is okay to leave spaces blank in a section where you might have a question or want some advice and feedback from the Peace Corps Prep Coordinator
  3. Meet with the Peace Corps Prep Coordinator to go over your student plan. They will sign your student plan and then make a copy for your own records. You will also need to sign the Release of Information form in order for ISU to report the number of participants in Peace Corps Prep and to issue you a certificate upon completion.
