Idaho State University’s National Girls and Women in Sports Day

ISU Women's Basketball Players during National Girls and Women in Sports Day 2022

Idaho State University is proud to celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD). This national day has been proclaimed by Congress every year since 1987, and is honored annually the first week of February. NGWSD recognizes the progress of girls and women in sports, and the benefits that sport and fitness activities can bring to the lives of all girls and women.

During National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the Trailblazer Award is presented to a woman with affiliation to ISU who has provided significant leadership and mentorship to women in sport.  Learn more about past Trailblazer Award Winners

2026 Celebration

This year, we are celebrating women leaders who have helped shape the future of athletics in the Pocatello community through a new podcast. This four episode podcast, called Hear Her Story, shares the knowledge and experiences that make these women great, including how they are continuing to empower girls and women through sport. Spotlighting these women, their hard work, and love of sport hopes to inspire and encourage other females in sport to pursue their goals and dreams.

We are excited to announce that the 2026 Sandra Dee Noakes Trailblazer Award will be given to Chelsey Stucki, an alumna of ISU and impactful leader in sport within the Pocatello community. Chelsey will be celebrated at halftime during the ISU women's basketball game on February 14, 2026.

Additionally, a college-student activity night to celebrate women in sport will be held February 25 at 6pm. Participants can play various sports, climb the rock wall, and socialize with new friends.
