Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend submitting requests at least 2–3 weeks in advance whenever possible, and potentially more for larger or more complex projects. However, timelines can vary depending on scope, complexity, approvals, and current workload. The more lead time we have, the better we are able to plan, develop, and deliver strong, strategic, and well-designed materials and campaigns that meet your goals.

That said, we understand that needs sometimes arise on shorter timelines, and we will always do our best to provide support where and when we can, based on capacity and priorities.

Include as much detail as possible—your goal, audience, key messages, timeline, event details (if applicable), and any existing content or materials. Clear and complete information helps us plan and execute your request effectively. If you don’t have all the details at the time of submission, that’s okay—just provide what you can, and we may follow up directly if additional information is needed.

Yes! Faculty and staff are welcome to create their own materials; however, all materials must follow ISU brand guidelines and go through the appropriate review and approval process. ISU brand resources can be found at isu.edu/brand.

If you would like additional support, Kaylee is also available to provide brand guidance and training upon request.

Schedule a Meeting

Submit all requests through the CHESS MarCom request form. We will route your request appropriately—whether it involves website updates, communications, or marketing and promotions—so it reaches the right person on the team.

Completion timelines vary depending on the scope, complexity, and current workload of submitted requests. We review each request and prioritize based on deadlines, project needs, and available capacity. Smaller projects may be completed more quickly, while larger campaigns or multi-component requests may require additional time for planning, development, and approvals. We will communicate with you throughout the process and let you know if adjustments to the timeline are needed.

Per ISU Policy, if you have any of the following types of items they must be approved before distribution.

  • Print materials for recruitment or marketing
  • Digital and print advertisements
  • External newsletters, magazines, annual reports.
  • Event invitations that are distributed outside of the University
  • Promotional items, swag
  • Stickers
  • Advertisements that use ISU-branded templates that have been altered
  • Materials and promotional materials that are branded at the University level only
    • To an external audience, it appears as if the items are produced at the University level.
    • Items will not have any college, department or unit identification.
    • This may include flags, giveaway items or printed materials
  • All items that refer in any way to President Wagner specifically or the University president in general.
    • Please contact Heidi Berry at heidiberry@isu.edu before creating the item.
  • Any items that use the University seal.

How to request approval for a completed design.

  • You can submit designs directly to MARCOM using this form or contact Kaylee McKay at kayleemckay@isu.edu early on in the process. She's always happy to help you with your design, can provide valuable feedback, and facilitate the approval process for you.
  • Going through CHESS MarCom ensures you get feedback and approval faster and avoids frustrating delays.

ISU Brand Guidelines

The request form helps us keep track of incoming projects, understand your goals and timeline, and make sure requests are prioritized and assigned appropriately. It also helps us gather the information we need upfront so we can provide the best support possible and avoid back-and-forth questions.

We understand that sometimes it feels easier to send a quick email, and you are always welcome to reach out with questions. If your request involves marketing or communications support, we may ask you to submit it through the form so it can be added to our project queue. We typically plan for a 2–3 week turnaround time when possible, depending on the scope of the request and current workload.

If you have a shorter timeline or need something simple, we’ll work with you to determine the best option. ISU also has templates and resources available to help faculty and staff create materials independently when appropriate.
