A short PVC pipe with one end blocked with a cork is filled with a small amount of liquid nitrogen. A plastic soda bottle that fits airtight around the PVC is slid onto the end and held there. Gloves are recommended for this demo as the PVC pipe will get extremely cold. Pressure will build up in the bottle as the liquid nitrogen evaporates. When enough pressure is achieved the bottle is released and is propelled forward by the expelled nitrogen gas.
