Vortex Cannons

PIRA 2C50.15

The department has two different vortex cannons, one made from a plastic bucket and the other from a garbage can. The smaller one works by hitting the membrane stretched over one end, and the larger one by pulling back on the knot in the center of the fabric and releasing it. With the larger one, use your knee to support the bottom of the garbage can while one of your hands hold the top. Pull the knot with your other hand. A smoke machine is available to make the vortices visible. Also, the vortex cannons can be used to blow out candles from long distances (with practice).
