Career Counseling

Career counseling is about exploration, finding out who you are and where you would be most successful and happy at this point in your life. Our licensed professional counselors assist people in exploring their career options, educational goals, and job opportunities. Services are offered to current College of Technology students and all community members who have an educational or career goal.

We use research based assessment tools to help people clarify and match themselves to job possibilities.

Strong Interest Inventory (SII) measures interests in work, leisure, and school activities. It provides a comparison of individual interests with people working in different occupations who are satisfied with their career choice. SII requires a follow-up appointment with a career counselor to interpret the results.

Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a widely used personality based assessment. It measures preferences in four different areas and produces a personality type for each individual. This increases your own self-awareness and helps you understand and appreciate differences in others. A list of occupations is produced that suggests good fit for your personality type. MBTI requires a follow-up appointment with a career counselor to interpret the results.

Focus 2 is an assessment you can access any time and receive immediate results. It is a guidance tool to help you clarify career goals, provide valuable current occupational information, and match your results to majors offered at ISU. Access Focus 2
