CHW Core Training

Course Details

Description: The CHW Core Training Course is designed to provide core competencies for CHWs through a self-paced curriculum, synchronous online sessions, and supplemented by five add-on health topic modules selected by the student. Students successfully completing the core course and course evaluation receive a Core CHW Training Certificate of Completion.

Audience: Those wanting to become a community health worker that have not worked as a CHW previously, or have not received CHW training.

Style: Hybrid - 48 contact hours total, of which 9 hours are live-online sessions, multiple sessions are available throughout the year

Registration Instructions and Information

Welcome to the CHW Training Academy! We are eager to have you join our community of health workers. Tuition for this program can be paid for through ISU CHW Training Academy funding. For simple registration, follow these steps:

  1. Register for the course you are interested in on the Continuing Education Workforce Training (CEWT) website, create a profile, and enroll. (Use link box below.) 
  2. At the end of enrollment, please select the following PAYMENT OPTION:
  • PAY LATER: ISU CHW Training Academy will cover your tuition. OR if you have a tuition waiver through Idaho Launch, please select PAY LATER. You may have to select Pay Later twice.

Please note that selecting PAY LATER will give you a message that your enrollment is incomplete. This is simply a system message. Your name is still on the list for enrollment at this point, and the ISU Training Academy will process tuition and give you access to the course before your course start date.

  1. During your course, we will also provide you with information about how to qualify for a stipend after you complete sections of our program. As a CHW Trainee going through the Core and Advanced courses, you can be eligible for up to $7,500 in stipend pay and tuition through HRSA. The stipend is free but is taxable.

Core Course: $1,847.50 course completion stipend, and $650 in tuition coverage

Advanced Course (In-class Learning): 1,902.50 course completion stipend, and $850 in tuition coverage

Advanced Course Practicum (48 Hours Experiential Learning): $2,250 completion stipend

The Core CHW Training is offered through Continuing Education and Workforce Training at Idaho State University. You do not need to be an ISU student to enroll in this course. Continuing Education credits through the University are also available for a small additional cost.
