Classified Staff Nominees
Linda Fawcett Mattson
My name is Linda Fawcett Mattson and I am interested in serving as a voice for classified staff at Idaho State University. I have worked for the State of Idaho for 7 years. Prior to that I worked in public school systems. Two years ago, I transferred to the Early College Program at Idaho State University where I currently work as an Administrative Assistant. I am currently a building safety representative. I have served on staff councils and staff committees at all of the places I have worked. On these councils and committees, I have served as a program representative, secretary, fundraising vice president and president. I am devoted to representing staff, recognizing staff achievements, providing leadership, and making recommendations for policy and procedures on behalf of staff at ISU.
Michelle Franklin
I am the Technical Records Specialist 2 in Academic Affairs. I have been a part of the ISU team since January of this year. Prior to this job, I worked in 911 dispatch centers for 14 years. During this time, I was highly involved in policy and procedure changes for our Communication Departments. This involved working closely with all of my employees to get their feedback and accurately represent their wants and needs.
Working such a stressful job also taught me how important it is to show appreciation for your employees and recognize their service. I am a firm believer that all employees need to be recognized for the amazing jobs they do. This recognition can come in many different forms. I love to be involved in making this appreciation known.
I would love to a member of Staff Council so I could help serve in these areas. Thank you for your consideration.
Mary Guyton
My name is Mary Guyton, and I have worked at Idaho State University College of Technology, for the last 10 years. I work in a unique department within the College of Technology called College and Career Readiness. We help individuals with barriers and challenges to learning become ready to go to college and/or enter a career. I served on Staff Council many years ago when I was first starting out with working at ISU. I wanted to be able to become more familiar with ISU as a whole and also make connections with fellow Bengals staff at the university. The same idea still holds true today, with the addition of knowing that there is still a lot of learning for me to do. I want to be able to make sure that staff have a voice and their successes and concerns are being addressed. We are all in this together, so it is important for us to understand and know that we can be heard.
Henry White
My name is Henry White, and I am a foreman in the custodial department. I have worked at ISU for almost 10 years now, and I have seen both good and bad policies and leadership in that time. I have seen people who spend years acting elite because of their position, and then as soon as they are called to action (i.e. COVID pandemic) they run for the hills and prove worthless. We cannot afford to promote status-seekers, we need workers who get things done.
This has inspired me to seek promotions and positions where I can do the most good for ISU. I am always thinking about what our staff and faculty need, and most importantly what our students need, as they are the entire reason any of us are even here. I believe that a grounded, no-nonsense and pragmatic approach is always best, and that's exactly what I bring to the table. In my time as foreman I have fixed or resolved multiple issues within 24 hours that my predecessor did not in weeks or months. I like to collect the necessary information and manage logistics for things to make sense, line up, and get done promptly, smoothly, and correctly the first time, every time.
Erik Talbert
My name is Erik Talbert. I have worked at the Idaho State University Meridian campus since 2018. I support videoconferencing for the Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy programs. I am interested in being part of Staff Council because staff are an important part of the university, and Staff Council is the official entity that represents that group. I think we do great things at ISU. I enjoy learning and sharing about what’s happening in other parts of campus, particularly within the Meridian campus. As a staff council representative, I hope to help continue improving both the formal and informal communication between and among all the people who work here. Too often, I see staff members exclude themselves from conversations, events, and participation simply because they are just staff. I understand that not everyone wants to go to a meeting or speak in front of a group, but I believe sometimes those are precisely the people who need to be heard, and I will certainly listen. I love the opportunities that being a staff member at ISU offers, and I’d love the opportunity to work with administration, faculty and students representing the hard-working staff for the betterment of Idaho State University. Thank you for your consideration.
Nanette Duncan
Hello, fellow Bengals. I work in Meridian, scheduling and proctoring the academic exams here- including those for Disability Services. My top five Clifton Strengths are Connectedness, Empathy, Intellection, Ideation, and Input. One of my core values is that every voice is valid, and should be heard and considered. As a relatively new Bengal (2 years), I can bring enthusiasm and a fresh perspective to the team. Being open to candid feedback and new perspectives is very important to me. Currently, there is no Classified representative from the Meridian campus on Staff Council. Let’s change that!
Brandon Evans
As a candidate for Staff Council at Idaho State University, I have gained valuable experience and expertise from working in the Sign Shop of Facilities Services and Kansas State University Athletics. I have a deep understanding of the challenges facing university staff, from addressing the signage needs of the campus community to navigating the demands of a high-pressure athletic environment. I have dealt with changing workloads and gained a unique perspective on the challenges faced by staff members in different areas of the university. If elected, I will be a strong voice for the staff, drawing on my experience to ensure that their concerns are heard and addressed. With my experience and commitment to making a positive impact on the university community, I am confident that I can be an effective and valuable representative for the staff on the council at Idaho State University.
Non-Classified Staff Nominees
Soni Myers
I’ve been with ISU Meridian since 2017 and currently serve as the Associate Director of Disability Services and Counselor/Clinical Coordinator for Counseling and Testing Service. In oversight of the combined Disability, Counseling and Career Services office in Meridian, I supervise two Non-Classified FTE and one Classified FTE. This multi-faceted role has afforded me many opportunities to develop strong relationships with faculty, staff and students across campuses. I’m also a board member, serving as Secretary, for the Idaho Partnership in Higher Education and Disability and have built meaningful connections with staff who represent virtually all universities and colleges across Idaho. Developing solid and encouraging relationships is one of my top five Clifton Strengths; in addition to empathy, individualization, learner and achiever. I would be proud to bring these strengths to the table in advocating for the best interest of ISU staff and supporting them as integral members of the ISU community.
Marty Vizcarra
I am a Project Manager with Facilities Services working on all three major campuses: Pocatello, Idaho Falls, and Meridian. I would like to self-nominate for the Staff Council as a non-classified employee. I believe in a healthy amount of humility, though I also believe it is important to recognize and bolster our personal strengths. Of the strengths I believe myself to possess, honesty, kindness and authenticity rank highest. I believe these values are inline with and similar to the Idaho State University Strategic plan Values. I believe by fostering my personal values that I can help make a significant difference in the lives of others here at Idaho State University. I strive to build strong relationships with every individual I encounter. I also work hard to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere to those around me and push for inclusion at all moments in my life. It is my belief that every voice should be heard. Because of my strong personal values and team-centric attitude, I believe that I would be a good candidate for Staff Council. I appreciate your consideration.
Omar Raudez
My name is Omar A. Raudez and I would like to nominate myself to be part of the Staff Council at Idaho State University. I am currently the Director of New Student Orientations at Idaho State University. I am interested in being part of the Staff Council to continue helping cultivate strong relationships between the administration, faculty, and students. I would love to help provide strong support for Idaho State University to continue advocating for our institutional values; integrity, community, inclusivity, teamwork, learning, and shared responsibilities. I believe in ISU both as an alumni and a staff member. In addition, I feel passionate about providing my support to continue strengthening our teamwork efforts through the Staff Council. Thank you for your consideration.
Jessica Sellman
My name is Jessica Sellman and I work with the department of Counseling and Testing as a Client Care Coordinator. I deeply enjoy my work in providing students with mental health services, helping coordinate any additional resources that they may need as well as providing outreach and educational workshops to increase awareness about mental health. As a proud Bengal myself, I am thrilled to see the ongoing successes of Idaho State University and I would love to be engaged in the continued development of programs, policies and procedures. The university system itself can only flourish if the staff are fulfilled and find joy in serving the student population.
Anthony Mainini
I am Anthony Mainini, and I am a Systems Administrator for the College of Technology, currently working towards my 6th year of employment here at Idaho State University. I am a graduate of the Information Technology Systems program at the College of Technology. I would like to be considered for a position on the Staff Council in hopes of getting more familiar with my fellow staff members and providing any assistance that may be needed.
John Walser
My name is John Walser and I would like to be nominated for a position on the staff council. I appreciate your consideration. I began working at ISU in January 2023 and my current role is Project Manager for IT Services. Serving on the staff council would be a great opportunity to further contribute to Idaho State University by learning about the needs of people across all of ISU's different departments and colleges, and then acting to facilitate improvements on their behalf. I believe it would also help me to gain a greater understanding of ISU as a whole, and a deeper appreciation for all the hard work that goes into making it successful place of learning. In short, I would love to be a part of this group so that I may be a contributor to the ISU community and help implement mission, vision, and values of this university.
Whitney Fenwick
Currently I serve as the Legal Programs Manager in the Office of the General Counsel. For about 5 and a half years I've worked at ISU. In that time I've worked as a classified and non-classified employee. I've graduated with my AA, BA, and MPA from ISU, which I think gives me the right to say that I bleed orange and black. I'm in a unique position as I've worked on the operational side of the university, been a student on the academic side, and have had the opportunity to work with folks on every level of our university. At the end of the day, ISU has given me so much more than a job, and I hope to continue advancing the incredible work that has given me so much throughout the years.
Marci Miller
My name is Marci Miller, and I work on the Meridian campus as the Testing Coordinator for Prometric Test Center. On April 17 of this year, I will celebrate six years with ISU Meridian. My responsibility is to manage the contract requirements within the partnership of ISU Meridian and Prometric which includes staffing, test integrity, and customer service. Last year I joined the Staff Council as a substitute to fill a void when a past member left the university. I enjoyed being a part of the Staff Council and would like to continue because it is important for the Meridian campus to have staff representation university wide. During my short time with the Staff Council last year, I co-developed staff Listening Sessions as an avenue for staff to share ideas, comments and concerns regarding life as an ISU Bengal. I would like to further develop these sessions into a standard operating procedure here in Meridian. There are also camaraderie type activities I would like to bring to the Meridian campus. Please consider electing me to the Staff Council so I can continue growing Meridian staff presence university wide.
Brad Broschinsky
I would like to nominate Brad Broschinsky for Staff Council. He is the Assistant Director for Idaho Falls Student Services and Academic Advising. He has been on Staff Council in the past and would like to represent Idaho Falls staff on Staff Council again. Brad holds a non-classified position. Brad is married and has four children. He has lived in Utah and Arizona and went to Ricks College, now BYU-Idaho, in Rexburg where he met his wife. He is a very involved family man and cares for Idaho Falls staff and the Idaho Falls campus as well as our students.
