Community Outreach
Our department is dedicated to promoting health and wellness through a variety of outreach efforts, including health fairs, educational talks, and collaboration with ISU’s health and wellness centers. From prenatal nutrition to senior wellness, our students, interns, and faculty share practical nutrition knowledge tailored to diverse community audiences. These initiatives support healthier lifestyles and foster strong connections between the university and the wider community.
Promoting Community Health and Wellness
Idaho State University regularly hosts health fairs designed to promote wellness and provide accessible health resources to students, staff, and the community. These events typically feature free or low-cost health screenings such as blood pressure checks and vision tests, along with educational booths covering topics like nutrition, mental health, and disease prevention. Interactive activities and demonstrations encourage participants of all ages to engage in healthy habits and learn more about maintaining overall well-being. The fairs serve as an important opportunity to connect the campus and local communities with valuable health services and information.
Idaho State University provides a comprehensive range of health and wellness services to support the physical and mental well-being of students across its campuses. The University Health Center offers medical care including primary care, urgent care, and specialty services. The Counseling and Testing Center provides confidential mental health counseling, psychological services, and testing support. Additionally, the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center promotes healthy lifestyles through fitness programs, recreational activities, and wellness resources. Together, these services create a supportive environment to help students thrive academically and personally.
Our department is proud to offer nutrition education and outreach to a wide range of community audiences. Whether speaking with expectant mothers about prenatal nutrition, engaging elementary and high school students in learning about healthy habits and career opportunities as Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs), or presenting to college students, community organizations, and senior centers, our students, interns, and faculty are passionate about sharing evidence-based nutrition knowledge. We tailor our presentations to meet the needs of each group, aiming to empower individuals with practical information to support their health and wellness.
