Outdoor Education Major

 The Human Performance and Sport Studies department at Idaho State University offers a baccalaureate degree in Physical Education with an Outdoor Education emphasis. Upon completion of the program, candidates will have the educational background to work for the Forest Service, national and state parks, city and military recreation programs, land management agencies, fish & game departments, outdoor guide services, and the many opportunities available in the outdoor equipment industry.

B.S. Physical Education, with an Outdoor Education Emphasis

  • Physical Education Core (9 credits)
  • Outdoor Education Emphasis (41 credits)
    • Objective 1:  Development and application of leadership and teaching skills in outdoor settings (10 credits)
    • Objective 2:  Safely engage in outdoor activities with minimal environmental impact (8 credits)
    • Objective 3:  Understand and interpret the natural environment

    Select:  Natural History Option  or  Outdoor Business  (9 credits)

    • Objective 4:  Cultivate and refine skills in a variety of outdoor activities (8 credits)
    • Objective 5: Gain education in subjects with historic and traditional importance in the outdoor education field (6 credits)
