Lambda Qi is focused on building a stronger and healthier queer community. Lambda Qi is a safe and affirming space where LGBTQIA+ can socialize, build a community, and access relevant sexual health information and education. For ISU students Lambda Qi provides an opportunity to develop positive self-esteem and a source of support.
The Lambda Qi project is funded through a grant from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare "Integrated HIV Survelliance and Prevention Programs for Health." All programming and events are funded through the grant.

“In 1970, graphic designer Tom Doerr selected the lower-case Greek letter lambda to be the symbol of the New York chapter of the Gay Activists Alliance. The alliance's literature states that Doerr chose the symbol specifically for its denotative meaning in the context of chemistry and physics: "a complete exchange of energy–that moment or span of time witness to absolute activity". Within the STEM field, the lambda symbol is associated with the half-life parameter of exponential random variables, which describes the time it takes for a state to change.
The lambda became associated with Gay Liberation, and in December 1974, it was officially declared the international symbol for gay and lesbian rights by the International Gay Rights Congress in Edinburgh, Scotland.”
Qi is a homonym that both means “the circulating life force whose existence and properties are the basis of much Chinese philosophy and medicine”. It also is an acronym for Queer Inclusive. We believe that the queer community is a place that should be accepting of all genders and sexualities.
Together the name Lambda Qi is an ever changing, ever progressive, group for anyone and everyone regardless of gender, sexuality, race, beliefs, or background.
