Assistive Tech Assistant

Job Summary:

The Assistive Technology (AT) Assistant provides support in the setup, maintenance, and use of assistive technologies to help individuals with disabilities access information and digital environments. Working under the supervision of an AT Specialist or Disability Services Coordinator, the AT Assistant helps ensure that students, clients, or employees have the tools they need to succeed.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the setup and maintenance of assistive technology devices (e.g., screen readers, magnifiers, braille displays, alternative input devices).

  • Provide basic training and support to users on software such as JAWS, NVDA, ZoomText, Kurzweil, Dragon NaturallySpeaking, and Read&Write.

  • Help prepare accessible materials, including converting documents to accessible PDF, Word, or braille formats.

  • Maintain inventory and track the usage and condition of AT equipment.

  • Troubleshoot minor issues and escalate technical problems to appropriate personnel.

  • Support the AT team in user assessments, installations, and classroom or workstation setups.

  • Document support activities and assist with user guides or tutorials.

  • Stay informed about new assistive technologies and accessibility best practices.


Required Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of assistive technologies and accessibility tools.

  • Proficient with common operating systems (Windows, macOS) and Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work respectfully with individuals with diverse needs.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities.

  • Familiarity with accessibility guidelines (e.g., WCAG, ADA, Section 508).

  • Basic skills in troubleshooting hardware/software issues.

  • Interest in learning about Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and digital inclusion.
