Mission and Goals

The ISU Department of Nutrition and Dietetics is committed to cultivating knowledgeable, ethical, and compassionate professionals who excel in both academic and clinical settings. Through innovative instruction, cutting-edge research, and community partnerships, we strive to empower students to become leaders in dietetics, advancing health and wellness across diverse populations. Our mission guides every aspect of the undergraduate BS in Dietetics program, from curriculum design to experiential learning, ensuring students are fully prepared to earn their degree and make a lasting impact on individual and public health.

Mission

Providing didactic and practical experiences in food and nutrition to develop competent graduates who improve the health of individuals and their communities and who are prepared to complete a graduate program, supervised practice, and the credentialing exam to become a registered dietitian nutritionist.

Goals

Goal 1 - Program graduates will perform proficiently in a graduate program and supervised practice in preparation to be a competent entry-level registered dietitian nutritionist.

Objectives:

  1. 1. At least 80% of program students complete program/degree requirements within 3 years (150% of program length).
    2. At least 60% of program graduates apply for admission to a supervised practice program prior to or within 12 months of graduation.
    3. Of program graduates who apply to a supervised practice program, at least 70% are admitted within 12 months of graduation.
    4. The program’s one-year pass rate (graduates who pass the registration exam within one year of first attempt) on the CDR credentialing exam for dietitian nutritionists is at least 80%.
    5. At least 70% of responding graduates will report an aggregate score of 4 or higher out of 5 indicating strong preparation that the DPD program prepared them for their graduate program and supervised practice experience.
    6. At least 70% of graduates from this program will receive an aggregate score of 4 or higher out of 5 indicating strong preparation on their knowledge and skill of dietetics from graduate program and supervised practice program directors.

Goal 2 - Program graduates will demonstrate leadership and service and improve the health of individuals and their communities.

Objective:

  1. At least 70% of responding graduates will actively work to improve the health of individuals and their communities, hold a leadership position, and/or participate in service opportunities related to the field within 12 months of graduation.
