Course Information

Idaho State University Community Health Worker (CHW) Training Academy is excited to be partnered with Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board (NPAIHB) to offer core training to those interested in becoming a Community Health Representative. The CHW/CHR Core Course training offers culturally specific pathways and various education settings specially designed for Indigenous students. The course is a fully online, 8-week course with live Zoom sessions and is supplemented by five health-specific modules (HSMs). NPAIHB will also host a 2 day in-person cultural and medical skills workshop. At completion, ISU and NPAIHB will issue certificates of completion. You are likely also eligible to receive up to $1,000 financial support while you learn.

The steps for applying are as follows:

  1. Complete the NPAIHB CHR Application (linked below)
  2. Once accepted, register and enroll for the CHW/R Core Training Course through ISU (see instructions below)

Registration Instructions and Information

We are eager to have you join us as a Community Health Representative. To register for this course, you should have submitted an application to the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board (NPAIHB) and received approval (and a code) to enroll. For simple registration, follow these steps:

  1. Register for the "Community Health Worker/Representative Training Core Competencies- Web Hybrid (NPAIHB)" course on the Continuing Education Workforce Training (CEWT) website, create a profile, and enroll. If registration requires a registration code and you have not been provided one, please contact Stephannie Christian schristian@npaihb.org or MorningRose Louie mlouie@npaihb.org.
  2. At the end of enrollment, please select the "PAY LATER" payment option. The Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board (NPAIHB) will be covering your tuition for this course.
  3. During your course, NPAIHB will also provide you with information about how to qualify for stipend pay and other assistance after you complete this course. This stipend is estimated to be approximately $1000 at the completion of the CHR Core Course.
