FAQs

Note: These FAQs are related to the transition to Canvas. For instructions and information on how to use Canvas see our Canvas Support Page.

(ISU-generated Canvas articles will be added to the TigerTracks Knowledge Base website in the future.)

How can I get support?

  • Canvas has 24x7 support that you can reach from within Canvas. Select Help at the bottom of the global navigation on the left, then choose either Canvas Support Hotline or Chat with Canvas Support.
  • ITRC Chat at the bottom of the Help & Training Menu, with limited hours (M-Th 8 am-7 pm, F 8-5)
  • You can also visit the Canvas Knowledge Base Articles for ISU-focused articles, videos, and request support.

Can I get access to Canvas now?

  • Faculty can request an initial learning sandbox course using Canvas: Sandbox Request Form.
  • Faculty may request several course-specific sandbox courses. Complete the ISU Canvas Faculty Essentials course and submit the form for each course.

When will my Spring 2025 course be added to Canvas?

  • ITS, ITRC, and Academic Affairs are working on the process that will load courses and faculty into Canvas. We are anticipating Spring 2025 courses will be added the first week of November.
  • You may request course-specific sandbox courses to start building your courses after you have completed the ISU Canvas Faculty Essentials. You can enroll in this course and request additional sandboxes through. Canvas: Sandbox Request Form
  • Moodle ISU course content can be backed up and imported into your Canvas courses: Import Moodle Content into Canvas Course.
  • Course content can then be imported into your live courses when they are added to Canvas.

Can I get a sandbox course in Canvas?

  • Yes! You can request as many Sandbox course-specific sandbox courses as you need after completing the ISU Canvas Faculty Essentials course. Canvas: Sandbox Request Form
  • Course content can then be imported into your live courses when they are added to Canvas.

How will my course content be migrated to Canvas?

  • You will be able to back up your desired content and import it into your Canvas course.
  • After you import your content, it is recommended to spot-check and clean up your course materials.
  • To keep Canvas working efficiently, only courses needed for the future should be migrated to Canvas.
  • This will ensure that the most recent and correct version of your courses are imported into Canvas.

Will my content import into Canvas as-is?

How will students access Spring 2025 courses in Canvas?

  • There will be a link to Canvas in the following places:
    • MyISU

  • Moodle ISU is located at elearn.isu.edu/moodle use your ISU SSO credentials to log in.

What about Moodle ISU Community?

  • Currently, Moodle ISU Community will remain as a separate site and will continue to use Moodle.

Can I do everything in Canvas that I did in Moodle?

  • For the most part, yes! Like MoodleISU, Canvas has tools to facilitate communication between you and your students, deliver course materials, collect assignments, deliver online quizzes, provide grades and feedback, and much more.
  • The processes and tools might look a little different in Canvas than Moodle ISU, and there might not be exact equivalents in Canvas for some of the more specific activities in Moodle.
  • Please see our Moodle → Canvas
  • Use the pre-migration checklist

There is a third-party tool I would like added to Canvas. How can I do that?

Can I share Canvas content with another instructor?

Can I add another instructor or TA to my course?

Do you have any templates I can use to help prepare my courses?

  • Yes, we do! We have a variety of templates / frameworks you can choose to use to help you build your courses in Canvas. Please see Canvas Frameworks.

How will course evaluations be handled?

  • TBD: Academic Affairs is determining a solution.

I have other questions about using Canvas. Where can I get help?
