Adventures in Color and Theory

Why is purple the color of royalty? How does the color scheme of a fast food restaurant impact how much time we spend there? Discover vivid histories behind dyes and hues that tell a global story about our relationships with color. Explore how color affects our lives everyday and how we can use it meaningfully. 

State Standards

These presentations meet the following state education standards for high school students:

Visual Arts

Anchor Standard 1: Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work.

VA:Cr1.1.IIIa Visualize and hypothesize to generate plans for ideas and directions for creating art and design that can affect social change.

VA:Cr1.2.IIIa Choose from a range of materials and methods of traditional and contemporary artistic practices, following or breaking established conventions, to plan the making of multiple works of art and design based on a theme, idea, or concept.

 

Anchor Standard 2: Organize and develop artistic ideas and work.

VA:Cr2.1.IIIa Experiment, plan, and make multiple works of art and design that explore a personally meaningful theme, idea, or concept.

VA:Cr2.3.IIIa Demonstrate in works of art or design how visual and material culture defines, shapes, enhances, inhibits, and/or empowers people's lives.

Interdisciplinary Arts

Anchor Standard 3: Create original works or unique interpretations that demonstrate knowledge of themes, issues, and/or movements that express the human experience.

CR1.3 Create an original product that interprets and/or investigates themes, issues, and/or movements.

Standard 6: Creative Communicator
