About INBRE

The state of Idaho is considered an IDeA state, which means that Idaho traditionally receives less NIH or other extramural funding than other states. These states may submit competitive grant proposals to support faculty and student biomedical research with stipends for summer fellows, faculty seed grants, and access to core facilities.

INBRE-4 is the most recent successful grant award in this program. The University of Idaho is the lead INBRE institution with administration of the grant, and subawards to participating colleges and universities

The Idaho INBRE Program is an unprecedented statewide scientific network of research and educational collaborations. Our aim is to improve the health of all Idahoans by augmenting and strengthening Idaho’s capacity to do and sustain biomedical research and education. Two research-intensive universities, five primarily undergraduate institutions, three community colleges, and the Idaho Veterans Research and Education Foundation work together to create an integrated ‘pipeline’ to health research careers.

INBRE profoundly affects biomedical research at every level and in all regions of Idaho.  We deliver unique, innovative, state-of-the-art biomedical research that contributes to improving human health. We invigorate faculty careers by sponsoring mentored, collaborative research and provide rich, intensive, competitive research experiences for students who are training as Idaho and the nation’s next generation of biomedical scientists. Through our innovative Industry Intern program, we are developing pathways to employment in Idaho industries. In short, we create an environment for Idahoans with the talent and desire to solve health problems in Idaho to do so.
