Arco Telepharmacy

In June 2014 Bengal Pharmacy opened the first full service telepharmacy in Idaho.

Our Pocatello location provides pharmacy services to our Arco location, 90 minutes away, through audio and video connections. Pharmacy technicians in Arco are supervised by pharmacists in Pocatello and both locations work together to fill prescriptions for patients in Arco. Finished prescriptions are checked remotely by the pharmacists who can then speak to patients about their medications using high quality video connections.

This telepharmacy project has allowed the rural communities including all of Butte County and parts of Custer County to retain access to pharmacy services.

The Idaho State Board of Pharmacy allowed a waiver of certain rules to provide an environment where a model of comprehensive pharmacy services could be provided via telepharmacy solutions and studied in a retail setting.

Bengal Pharmacy and the ISU College of Pharmacy are working to develop a model of providing telepharmacy services in a way that can be replicated by others to retain and regain services which have been disappearing from rural communities at an increasing rate.
