Academic Advisor

An advisor will assist your student with selecting courses based on their major and ensuring they are on the right track for their degree

 

Academic Affairs

The academic affairs division is responsible for supporting student learning and experiences, program initiatives, and faculty support.

 

Academic Standing

A student’s academic standing is based on his or her earned GPA and determines the student’s eligibility to continue academic studies and/or graduate from the University. 

 

Bengal Web

This is ISU’s student platform in which they can register for classes, view their cost of attendance, access ISU email, view past grades,  and ISU class material on Moodle.

 

Credit Hour

Courses are composed of credit hours, which generally relate to the amount of time spent in course instruction. A course is normally 3 credits and class sessions are usually 50 minutes for 3 times a week

 

Co-Requisite

A course that needs to be taken at the same time with a different course. Example. BIO 1101 L is a co-requisite for BIO 1101 as it is the lab section that goes with the course.

Degree MAP

A layout of classes for a student to take per semester depending on the Degree the student is pursuing. The Bachelor's Degree MAP is listed for up to 8 semesters which equals to 4 academic years. 

 

General Education

These courses make up the core of the degree. It helps ensure students have broad knowledge across disciplines such as composition, mathematics, sciences, humanities, fine arts, and social and behavioral sciences.

 

Moodle

ISU courses management software where all classes have a Moodle classroom in which students can access class materials, class discussions, view current class grades, and submit assignments.

 

Semester

 A full semester is 18 weeks. Fall semester starts during the third week of August and ends the first week of December. Spring semester starts the Second week of January and ends the first week of May.
