Almost There! Five Energizing Tips for Surviving Year-End Chaos
March 2, 2026
As the school year winds down, it's normal to feel stretched thin. Between managing student energy, staying on course with the curriculum, and juggling your personal life now that spring is in full swing, teacher burnout can be hard to avoid. But you don’t have to crawl to the last day of school overwhelmed and exhausted. Here are five manageable ways to stay energized, focused, and positive so you can end the school year strong.
- Prioritize What Matters Most
It is time to simplify your to-do list. Focus on your “must-do” tasks and give yourself permission to put the “nice-to-do” items on the back burner. Think about what will actually make an impact on your students and your sanity. Progress, not perfection, is the goal.
- Lean on Your Community
Ask a fellow teacher whom you trust about successful strategies they use for avoiding burnout. Collaborating can help lighten everyone’s load. Avoid getting pulled into conversations that only serve to reinforce your struggles or lead to confirmation bias.
- Build in Daily Mini-Breaks
You may not have time for a full day off, so build in mini-breaks throughout your day to refresh your mind and body. Playing your favorite playlist while your students are out to recess or lunch, taking a walk around the building, or 5 minutes of meditation at your desk before students arrive in the morning can go a long way.
- Celebrate the Wins
Reflect on the progress your students have made, and acknowledge your own growth as a teacher. Celebrating the big and small victories can help you stay focused on your goals and renew your enthusiasm. Being grateful for all the wins along the way is a powerful antidote to burnout.
- Focus on Self-Care
We all know you have a life outside of your classroom so make sure you prioritize yourself. You can’t fill anyone else's cup if yours is empty. Whether it’s reading, hiking, reorganizing your closet, or spending quality time with your family, self-care is essential for your emotional resilience.
Teacher burnout is real, and it’s easy to simply chug along through these last few weeks. But you’ve got this! Try a few of these tips this week and notice the difference they make.
