Idaho State announces interim vice president for research

POCATELLO—Idaho State University announced today that Scott Snyder, dean of the College of Science and Engineering, will serve as the interim vice president for research after Neels Van der Schyf retires at the end of the year. Snyder will continue in his capacity as dean during and after this interim appointment.
Before coming to ISU, Snyder served for nearly eight years as the chief research officer at the University of Nebraska Omaha and two years as a program director at the National Science Foundation.
“I am pleased to step up and help out as we at ISU move through this transition. I have experience in the duties of the vice president position and see my time as interim as a way to move us seamlessly into a new chapter of research leadership at ISU. I couldn’t be happier to be at ISU in this time of change and opportunity.”
The national search for a Vice President for Research will begin this spring with the goal of having a new vice president in place by the beginning of the Fall 2019 semester.
“This is a very important position for ISU as we work together with our faculty to develop our university’s strategy for supporting research and scholarship,” said ISU President Kevin Satterlee. “Bringing Scott on as interim vice president gives us a great opportunity to have an expert in research administration help the campus move forward.”
Provost Laura Woodworth-Ney said she is grateful to have Snyder on board.
“We brought Dean Snyder to Idaho State to lead the College of Science and Engineering,” Provost Laura Woodworth-Ney said. “We are grateful for his skills and experience in getting us through this transition.”
Snyder is glad to serve as interim vice president. He will not be a candidate for the permanent vice president position.
