'Math Circles' Talk Set Sept. 13

All are invited to a free talk, "Math Circles from the Navajo Nation and Beyond," Thursday, Sept. 13 at 4 p.m. in the Physical Science Building, Room 307. Refreshments will be provided at 3:30 p.m. in Physical Science, Room 317. Presenting is David Auckly, professor of mathematics at Kansas State University.

The Navajo Nation Math Circles project was launched in fall 2012. This project brings mathematical outreach to an indigenous population of roughly 200,000 people across an area the size of West Virginia. The project serves students ages 6 through 18 and their teachers.

The project uses mathematicians from all over the world to reach this special population in this special place. The program employs different, yet coordinated components to reach a broad swath of the community.
