Idaho Statewide 3MT® Competition Feb 17
February 12, 2026
All are invited to join the ISU Graduate School in cheering on the four graduate students from Idaho State University competing in the Statewide Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition on February 17. The event takes place in Coeur d'Alene, ID and is available for viewing via Zoom.
Four graduate students from each of Idaho’s public research universities — University of Idaho, Boise State University and Idaho State University — compete annually in the 3MT® statewide competition and present their research in just three minutes or less, with only one slide. A panel of judges chooses first, second and third place, and the audience gets the chance to vote for the People's Choice Award.
The students attending from ISU are several who placed in ISU's 3MT event in November 2025, and two who are taking the place of our other winners who are unable to attend:
ISU 3MT First Place: Will Kimball, Chemistry - MS
ISU 3MT Second Place: Katelyn Cathcart, Clinical Psychology - PhD
Arifa Islam Champa, Engineering and Applied Science - PhD
Aubree Denker, Public Health - MPH
Founded by the University of Queensland in 2008, the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is an academic competition that cultivates students’ presentation and science communication skills. The competition challenges them to describe their research within three minutes to a general audience.
