Center for Learning and Instructional Excellence Workshop: Finding the Best-Fit LLM for Your Purpose
February 12, 2026
Presenters: Dr. Allison Roxburgh, assistant professor, teaching and educational studies and Kaywin Cottle, clinical instructor, teaching and educational studies (Twin Falls)
Date: Feb 13, noon – 1 p.m.
Description: The big idea framing this presentation is how to critically examine different Large Language Models (LLMs). This interactive session provides a practical framework for faculty to evaluate AI tools and gain direct experience comparing multiple models through guided exploration. Attendees will use a web-based evaluation tool to conduct real-time testing of several common LLMs, including ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, using designed prompts that reveal differences in responses to academic tasks. Guiding questions will support critical evaluation of outputs, such as accuracy, stylistic fit, and approaches to complex topics. The session helps participants move beyond general AI awareness toward the ability to critically evaluate AI outputs for their academic contexts.
