Graduate School Dean Finalists Announced


After a competitive national search, five finalists have been named in the Dean of the Graduate School search.  

Each candidate will take part in an open forum in person on the Pocatello campus. All are welcome to meet the candidates and ask questions. Feedback opportunities will be available online after each forum.

Dr. Karen Appleby:  Monday, December 1, 3:30 p.m., Center for Learning - Rendezvous 129

Dr. Karen M. Appleby currently serves as Professor of Education and Coordinator of Faculty Development in the College of Education at Idaho State University. She holds a Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Sport Psychology, alongside two Master’s degrees in Sport Psychology and Sport Management (respectively) from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Dr. Appleby has also served as Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Vice Provost for Faculty Success and Instruction, and Interim Dean of the College of Education at Idaho State University. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses focused on sport psychology, sport marketing, and leadership. - Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Andrae Marak:  Thursday, December 4, 3:30 p.m., Center for Learning - Rendezvous 129

Dr. Andrae M. Marak holds a Ph.D. in Latin American Studies from the University of New Mexico, along with a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from Syracuse University.  He is currently Professor of History and Political Science at Roosevelt University, where he also served as Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. Prior to joining Roosevelt University, he was Professor of History and Political Science at Governors State University.  His administrative experience at Governors State included roles as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dean of Graduate Studies, and Chair of the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences.  Dr. Marak also served as Division Head for the Division of Liberal Arts at Indiana University Columbus, as well as Interim Director and Associate Director of the Honors Program, and Chair of the Department of History and Political Science at California University of Pennsylvania. - Curriculum Vitae  

Dr. Dain LaRoche:  Monday, December 8, 3:30 p.m., Center for Learning - Rendezvous 129

Dr. Dain P. LaRoche currently serves as the Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Exercise Science at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire. He holds a Ph.D. in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Utah, as well as a Masters of Science degree in Sports Science from UMass Amherst. His administrative career at the University of New Hampshire includes service as Chair of the Department of Kinesiology, Faculty Fellow for Academic Affairs, and Program Director of Exercise Science.  He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Exercise Science, Applied Physiology, and Applied Biomechanics, among others. -

Dr. Darin Hoskisson:  Wednesday, December 10, 3:30 p.m., Center for Learning - Rendezvous 129

Dr. Darin Hoskisson is Professor of Music at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where he also currently serves as the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College of Graduate Studies. He has also served as Acting Provost, Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management, Interim Vice President for Enrollment Management, Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Chair of the Department of Clinical Health Sciences.  He holds a Ph.D. in Music Theory from the University of Oregon, a Master of Music in Music Theory from Louisiana State University.  He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on music theory, ear training, and music research methods. - Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Tracy Collum:  Thursday, December 11, 3:30 p.m., Center for Learning - Rendezvous 129

Dr. Tracy Collum is Interim Dean of the Graduate School at Idaho State University and Professor of Practice in the College of Education.  She holds an Ed.D. in Adult and Community College Education from North Carolina State University, and an M.S. in Physical Education - Sport Psychology from Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts.  In addition, Dr. Collum has previously served as Associate Dean of the Graduate School at Idaho State University, as well as Associate Dean of the Norcross Graduate School, Associate Dean of Evening Degree Programs, and Coordinator of Registration at High Point University. She teaches graduate courses focused on enhancing, supporting, and facilitating graduate student success in college-level teaching. - Curriculum Vitae
