College of Business to Bring Dr. Anthony Klotz to Idaho State University

December 8, 2022

Anthony Klotz

Anthony Klotz of the University College of London, who predicted and coined the term “the Great Resignation,” will be in Pocatello on Feb. 16, to teach a masterclass as part of the ISU College of Business (COB) course, The Future of Leadership.

ISU College of Business professor, Dr. Alex Bolinger, designed the course to cover topics at the core of current leadership challenges. These topics include record-low unemployment, remote and hybrid work, phenomena such as “quiet quitting,” and increased employee mobility during the Covid-19 pandemic. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, over 47 million people in the USA resigned from their positions in 2021. In October 2022 alone, over four million people left their jobs. Dr. Klotz’s masterclass will focus on the reasons and reality behind the Great Resignation.

“I knew from talking to my students, workers, and business leaders that the pandemic had changed how many people felt about work,” Klotz said in an interview with Texas A&M Today. “Workers saw that quitting their jobs gave them a chance to take control of their personal and professional lives.”

The course is an 8-week evening class offered to ISU students and members of the community. Dr. Bollinger’s goal for the class is to lean deep into the challenges facing business leaders today and what leadership will look like in the future.  Bollinger stated, “Record-low unemployment, "quiet quitting," ‘The Great Resignation’, and the move to remote/hybrid work are real leadership challenges. This class will dive into what leadership looks like today and how to address current challenges while preserving organizational culture.”

The Future of Leadership course will be held on Thursday evenings from 5:30 pm -8 pm starting January 12 and ending on March 2, 2023. Limited seating is available to both the public and university students. The course fee for the general public is $1,500 and includes the masterclass offered by guest lecturer Dr. Klotz. The general public can register for the class through ISU Continuing Education and Workforce Training (CEWT) at cetrain.isu.edu. The CEWT office can be reached by phone at (208) 282-3372.

ISU students interested in attending the class can do so using the traditional registration system. University fees apply.
