Step Up To The Plate Campus Wellness Challenge

February 26, 2021

In celebration of March as National Nutrition Month, the Be Well, Bengals program is partnering with the ISU Wellness Center to host a weeklong “Step Up To The Plate” Wellness Challenge (March 15 - 19). This program is open to faculty, staff, and students at all ISU campus locations. The goals of this challenge are to increase awareness about nutrition, and support our Bengals by providing activities that promote healthy nutrition practices.

To participate, please complete this registration form by noon on Friday, March 12.

Participants who register will be able to self-select one or more of the following activities to complete during the challenge week.

  • Hydrate healthfully - If you are choosing to drink sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) often, swap out an 8 oz. glass water for at least one SSB each day during the week.If you don't drink SSBs, hydrate healthfully by drinking an 8 oz. glass of water with each meal.

  • Avoid distractions while eating - Turn off TV and cell phones while you eat and don't eat at your computer during work your day.

  • Choose two healthful recipes to make during the week - Making a weekly menu with recipes for 2-3 meals can help you have a game plan for preparing healthy meals at home.

  • Write out and use a grocery list to shop for healthful foods - This can compliment making a weekly menu and can be part of your game plan for having healthy foods on hand at home for recipes for meals, as well as snacks.

  • Share meals together as a family at least 2 nights during the challenge week - Research supports that having regular family meals offers a large variety of benefits to children and parents, including promoting physical health, academic performance, and emotional and mental health.

  • Vary your exercise routine - Choose a new physical activity that you have not tried before. A balanced fitness routine should include cardio, strength, and stretching exercises. If you are focusing on one of those, add an activity for one of the other components.

  • Schedule an in-person or virtual nutrition coaching session with the Wellness Center registered dietitian nutritionist, Alyssa. The Wellness Center is offering one nutrition coaching session for free per person during the week of the challenge! Sessions are subject to availability based on Alyssa’s schedule.

  • Schedule an in-person or virtual personal training session with the Wellness Center personal trainer, Joe. The Wellness Center is offering one personal training session for free per person during the week of the challenge! Sessions are subject to availability based on Joe’s schedule.

These activities are intended to support your personal wellness goals, and you do not need to submit any personal health results or data to participate in the challenge.

One student winner will be selected at random from those who enter. The winner will receive their choice of a complimentary Spring 2021 GET-FIT Passport, GET-FIT Program workout tank, or Wellness Center t-shirt, or the choice of a complimentary nutrition coaching or personal training session. Student winners will be contacted by email on Friday, March 26, and provided additional information about collecting their prize.
