Gmail Search Feature Now Includes Email Aliases

February 18, 2021

Idaho State University’s Information Technology Services is excited to announce that Google has updated their Gmail Search feature:  email aliases are now included in the Gmail Search results.

This is of significant interest to ISU populations, since many people at ISU received a new email address recently tied to their ISU email account. Google’s new search update means that when you perform a search in Gmail, the search will look for email aliases (e.g., bennybengal@isu.edu) as well as the main email address (e.g., bengbenn@isu.edu). Search results will pull from the to, from, cc, and bcc fields, or from anywhere in the email itself.

This change went into effect February 11, 2021, and is available without users needing to take any special actions.

You can find more information about this change by visiting Google’s web page on the topic.  If you have any questions or concerns, you are welcome to contact the Service Desk, at 208-282-HELP (4357).
