Teaching innovation grant

January 16, 2020

Dr. Susan Tavernier (Nursing) and Barbara Gordon (Dietetics) were awarded an ISU Teaching Innovation Grant for 2019-20. Their project is entitled "Putting students in the driver's seat:  A participatory approach to developing an interprofessional course on palliative care"

The project will use a participatory and andragogical approach to engage graduate health science students in the creation of a 1-credit interprofessional course on palliative care. Participatory design recognizes the value of engaging learners in the development and design of instruction while andragogy incorporates adult learning principles that maximize learning and application. With the goal of building a curriculum that best meets the needs of an interprofessional student body, this grant encourages graduate students from across health disciplines to become active participants in the curriculum development planning and scoping process.
