Idaho State University Graduate Research Symposium set April 2 features more than 60 students presenting research

March 24, 2016

POCATELLO – More than 60 students from Idaho State University will have the opportunity to present their academic research at the annual Graduate School Research Day Symposium on Saturday, April 2.

All are invited for the morning presentation sessions as well as the keynote speaker. The afternoon workshops are geared towards graduate students to provide professional development towards their career and academic goals.

This year’s event will include both oral and poster presentations by graduate students, followed by a catered lunch and a presentation by keynote speaker, Sam Logan, assistant professor at Oregon State University, College of Public Health and Human Sciences.

Immediately following lunch, graduate students will have the opportunity to participate in professional development workshops, which will be hosted by ISU’s own faculty and staff, featuring topics on publishing, developing interdisciplinary teams, CV writing, and much more.

During the oral presentation segment, graduate students will showcase their research in 15-minute presentations from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the poster symposium will also be on display at the same time.

Both events will be concurrently held in the ISU Pond Student Union Salmon River Suites, Ballroom, and North, Middle and South Fork Salmon rooms.

The oral and poster presentations span the graduate programs from five colleges at ISU. In addition, the presenters will be judged in various categories, with the top scores receiving prizes awarded at a ceremony held at 4 p.m.

“The Graduate Student Research Days provides graduate students a remarkable opportunity to share their innovative research, analyses, literature reviews and more,  which have been conducted throughout the year,” said Tracy Collum, associate dean of the Graduate School. “It also provides students a great experience in presenting their research prior to attending national conferences or defending a thesis or dissertation to a faculty committee. Students will receive constructive criticism and feedback, which will ultimately help them as they prepare to present their research in the future.”

The University community and the public are invited to attend.
