The Idaho State University Reed Gymnasium parking lot will remain closed for up to six weeks or longer as work is performed on a steam tunnel underneath the parking lot.

The parking lot closed is in front of the gym on its north side off of Martin Luther King Jr. Way where it intersects with Memorial Drive. ADA parking spots for the gym have been set up at the east end of the parking lot.

“We appreciate your patience as we work on the tunnel and have the parking lot closed,” said Steve Fuger, ISU director of Facilities Operations.

ISU Facilities Operations will replace a tunnel lid and reinforce the structure of the 7-foot deep, 5-foot wide tunnel, Fuger said. The tunnel is located leading north from the northeast door of Reed Gym, near to the center of the Martin Luther King Jr. Way/Memorial Drive intersection.

Design work for repairs is underway, to be followed by demolition and the repair work, weather permitting. Alternate plans are being drafted to allow for temporary shoring and surface reinforcing should early winter weather force an alternate repair plan.
