Mark Levine, most recently senior director of health science communications at the University of Nevada School of Medicine Las Vegas, has been named director of the Idaho State University Office of Marketing and Communications.

"We look forward to Mark's oversight of our department of Marketing and Communications," said Kent Tingey, ISU vice president for advancement. "Mark's successful experience in branding, strategic planning and marketing and overall knowledge in the field, in a broad array of settings, will provide great strength to Idaho State University and its efforts in marketing and communications. We welcome Mark and his wife, Abby, to our community."

He will begin work at ISU on June 28.

Levine, hired after a national search, replaces interim director Libby Howe, who filled in after former director Graham Garner left ISU for a job at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology early this year.

"My wife, Abby, and I eagerly look forward to joining the university community and living in the Pocatello area," Levine said. "It will be a professional honor to work with President Arthur Vailas, Vice President for Advancement Kent Tingey, the faculty, students, staff and Pocatello community to create excitement, understanding, appreciation and support for all that Idaho State University is and more importantly, has the capacity to achieve in the future."

At the University of Nevada School of Medicine Las Vegas, Levine developed and directed a strategic, comprehensive, best-practices marketing and communications plan in support of the School of Medicine and its clinical practice, University Health System.

His communications/marketing team created the "Many Faces, One Mission…Quality Patient Care" marketing/ branding campaign resulting in a 65 percent new patient increase just one year after implementation.  University Health System, the physician staffed clinical practice, quickly established itself as the number one ranked multi specialty health care provider in southern Nevada.

Prior to coming to Las Vegas he served the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine as director of capital campaign communications for the school's $1 billion capital campaign.

He brings a 30-year career in higher education, academic medicine, health care, state government and the non-profit sector.  His experience includes service at a number of universities, including Northern Illinois University, Brandeis University, Lycoming College, Appalachian State University, and Eastern Connecticut State University.  He served as national vice president of communications for the renowned Hazelden Foundation.

Well known in the field of higher education, his peers elected him to serve three terms as vice president of marketing/communications for the Council For Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District 1. Under his leadership and direction the district’s annual communications awards program became a model for recognizing outstanding print communications in the field of higher education.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in government/urban studies from The American University and a Master of Science in Journalism Degree in editorial journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and earned his Educational Specialist degree in higher education administration from Appalachian State University.

Mark and his wife Abby are the parents of two daughters, Amanda, a speech language pathologist in Coral Springs, Fla., and Heidi, a physical therapist in Austin, Texas.  They are the proud grandparents of a granddaughter, Maggie Grace.
