ISU Japanese Night set April 10 in Pond Student Union

The Idaho State University Japanese Club will present the sixth annual ISU Japanese Night from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Saturday, April 10, in the Pond Student Union Ballroom.

 The event will be a celebration of cherry blossom season in Japan and feature a fun evening with the sounds, sights, smells and food of Japan. 

This year's event features fabulous authentic food prepared and served by members of ISU's Japanese faculty, ISU Japanese Club, SAKURA Japanese grocery store, and the Pocatello-Iwamizawa Sister city committee. The menu will feature a variety of Japanese food.

A slide show, accompanied by Japanese music during the dinner will feature the natural beauty of Japan, its people and culture. Entertainment to follow will feature the arrival of the spirit of the festival in a mikoshi parade with taiko drums, kimono fashion show, origami with audience, Yosakoi sooran dance, and the Taiko drumming performance. At the end of the show the audience can dance a traditional bon odori dance with the Japanese club members.

During the event silent auctions will feature items for bid and sale from the Japanese Club and the Pocatello-Iwamizawa Sister City. There will also be some Japanese gifts and snacks for sale. Funds generated from the festival and auction will go to support Japanese club scholarships for students, and Sister City summer exchange programs and their expenses.

Tickets are available in the Rendezvous Complex from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. through April 9 and at SAKURA grocery and tea room located at 610 N. Arthur in Pocatello from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Ticket prices are $9 for general public, $8 for ISU faculty and staff and $6 for students. Admission is free for children under 5. Tickets will also be available at the door on April 10, beginning at 5:30 pm, but will be a dollar more.  Advanced ticket purchase is recommended.
