‘Developing Capable People Series’ webinar offered by ISU Rocky Mountain Learning

An eight-part webinar series adapted from the research by H. Stephen Glenn's “Developing Capable People Program” will be offered beginning June 8 by Rocky Mountain Learning, a new online meeting and continuing education service provider developed by the Institute of Rural Health at Idaho State University.

This series is targeted towards professionals who want to enhance their capabilities with individuals on reducing conflicts; encouraging their self-esteem; communicating in a style based on openness, honesty and mutual respect; building on their successes and learning from their failures; encouraging individuals to be responsible for their actions; and helping youth to improve declining achievement, motivation, discipline, comprehension and morale.

Court workers, law enforcement officers, educators, clergy, social workers, youth service workers, counselors, substance abuse professionals, psychologists, family therapists and any professionals in a position to influence youth and adults are encouraged to attend.

The webinar will be presented by Anne Myler Preston, a licensed clinical social worker clinician. Preston received her bachelor's degree in social work from Idaho State University in 1993 and a master's degree in social work from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in 1996. She has worked in the field of mental health for more than 16 years. The last 12 years she has been a clinician with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare working in various capacities.

The series will be available online and participants can complete each session at any time and date of their choosing. Each session costs $15.

The titles of the series’ eight sessions are: “Part 1: Changing Relationships” and “Part 2: Perceptions of Capabilities,” available June 8; “Part 3: Perceptions of Meaning and Purpose” and “Part 4: Perceptions of Control Over Environment,” available June 15; “Part 5: Developing Intra-Personal Skills” and “Part 6: Developing Skills to Work with Others,” available June 22; and “Part 7: Developing Responsibility” and “Part 8: Developing Judgmental Skills,” available June 29.

These sessions will be broadcasted over the Internet right to participants’ computers. Participants can receive up to eight contact hours that can be used for continuing education credit and professional development.
